Animal Technical Rescue Technician - Animal Technical Rescue Technician This course provides the knowledge and understanding of skills and resources necessary to respond to a ATR incident as a single incident, or as a component of large scale disaster involving large and small animal and human elements, and to do so in a safe and effective manner, with low impact on ongong emergency services operations.

This course also meets and exceeds NFPA 1670 Chapter 17.1 - 17.2 guidelines and covers the most likely animal species that first responders are called to rescue and manage: cattle (beef and dairy), horses, including working horses (police mounts, SAR), companion animals and working dogs (SAR, K-9).

Subjects covered include: Auto extrication, types of hand and power tools, removing windows, opening doors, removing roofs, pulling steering wheels, moving foot pedals, raising dashboards, pulling seats, stabilization of vehicles, and simulated rescues of trapped victims.

The Behavioral Health and Cancer Awareness 1A: Front-Line Responder (2020) course provides the student the opportunity for learning the basics of Behavioral Health and Cancer Awareness by describing stress and listing stressors; identifying and describing the impacts of stress; describing factors and demonstrating practices for resilience; describing types, prevalence, and causes of cancer; describing exposure to carcinogenic chemicals; and describing and demonstrating minimizing exposure and risk to cancerous contaminants.

The Behavioral Health and Cancer Awareness 3A: Organizational Leader course provides chief-officer-level information on the science of cancer, the budgetary and policy impacts, implementing policies and procedures and overcoming challenges to mitigation and minimization of toxic exposure, and developing a cancer-prevention program. It also provides information on the prevalence of behavioral-health issues and the impacts of prevention, implementing policies and procedures and overcoming challenges to increase wellness, and developing a behavioral health and wellness program.

This new FSTEP curriculum has been developed based on the latest evidence-based research and industry best practices, and using several others references as supporting documents. Behavioral health and cancer awareness are emerging topics where significant resources, research, and attention is being dedicated to the study of the topics. To date, NFPA standards have not yet been developed, however, stakeholders are demanding information on these subjects be addressed with the intention of educating the workforce and simultaneously influencing policy and the standards-making process.

CA-219: Wildland Firefighting - Firing Operations - CA-219: Wildland Firefighting - Firing Operations (2018) This course provides information and develops skills required to perform and hold firing operations on wildland fires and prescribed burns. This course contains a mix of online and instructor-led training including live fire exercises. The students will be engaged in wildland firefighting and firing operations. Students are required to complete the online training portion of the course and  recourse quizzes prior to taking the instructor-led training.

Topics include fire fighter survival terminology, developing a survival attitude, increasing situational awareness, and being trained in problem-solving techniques so you can become more self-reliant in an emergency. Case studies will be reviewed to outline factors common in many line-of-duty deaths (LODDs) across the nation.

Fire Investigator 2A (1989) - Fire Investigator 2A (1989): Criminal and Legal Procedures This course provides information on conducting an explosive investigation and a surveillance operation, preparing a search warrant, testifying as an expert witness, assembling a curriculum vitae, and properly documenting a criminally caused fire. In addition, each student will be assigned to an investigative team to conduct an investigation of their own criminally caused fire. During this practical exercise, each team will be required to conduct the scene investigation, properly collect and document supportive evidence, prepare their written case report, and present their finding to a district attorney and a judge to review.
